The "Tuscumbia" bag captures the beauty of the quaint city of Tuscumbia which is tucked quietly away in the Shoals in a corner of North Alabama. Tuscumbia is home to the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind as well as the birthplace of historical figure Helen Keller, who herself was blind as the result of a childhood illness. The faux braille on the bag spells out "Just Add Water" as a tribute to the word "w-a-t-e-r". This was the first word Helen linked to an actual object which opened the door of her dark and silent world to communication through sign language. Helen went on to live a full and productive life in spite of her disabilities as she traveled and spoke in many countries advocating for the blind. Her life achievements speak clearly to the fact that every life matters--even those individuals who struggle with disabilities of any kind--and has great value and the ability to impact the world around them.
